There’s something about summer in the Cotswolds that feels just magical and almost timeless.

Cotswold stone cottages glowing in the evening sun, wildflowers spilling across country lanes, children running barefoot through fields, and long slow afternoons exploring quaint and picturesque villages together. Whether you’re visiting from elsewhere in the UK or travelling from abroad, holidays in the Cotswolds often become core memories for years to come.

And while phone photos capture snippets of the trip, a professional photoshoot allows you to truly preserve the feeling of your time here together.

Why Book a Holiday Photoshoot While Your are in The Cotswolds?

When families visit the Cotswolds, they’re usually celebrating something:

  • a summer holiday

  • a family reunion

  • a babymoon

  • an anniversary

  • a first trip with a new baby

A relaxed summer photoshoot can become part of that experience rather than something formal or stressful.

Instead of stiff ‘smile at the camera’ posing, my sessions are unposed, unrushed with a focus is on play and connection.

Years later, these photographs become more than holiday pictures — they become memories of a season in your life.

The Best Summer Locations for Photos in the Cotswolds

The Cotswolds have many wonderful spaces for a photoshoot. Whether you are looking for rolling hills and wildflowers, or charming Cotswold villages, both can be found not far from the other.

Villages like Bibury and Upper & Lower Slaughter offer stone cottages, winding lanes and classic English countryside character. Why not start your day with an early morning photoshoot, spend our time exploring and end our session in a cute coffee shop.

Summer in the Cotswolds also brings long grass, seasonal wildflowers and golden evening light across the countryside surrounding Cheltenham and the wider Cotswolds. The rolling hills of the Cotswolds make a stunning backdrop to family photos’

My sessions feel natural, open and relaxed - ideal for families with young children who simply want space to play and explore.

Another option many families choose is to have their session at the cottage or country house they’re staying in.

This works especially well for:

  • newborn sessions

  • multigenerational family gatherings

  • slow mornings at home

  • intimate storytelling images

Some of the most meaningful photographs are often created in the places where your family is actually spending time together.

What Time of Day Is Best?

Summer evenings in the Cotswolds are truly magical.

The hour before sunset - often called “golden hour” - creates the most gorgeous soft light that is so flattering for photographs. From May through to late June sessions would start around 7.30pm and during July and August, this can mean evening sessions beginning earlier at around 6:30–7:00pm.

For families with younger children, morning sessions are often better and are just as pretty. An early start is recommended, firstly because the light is not as harsh, and secondly, if you have chose to shoot in a village, an earlier start means less tourists in the background of your shots.

What Should You Wear for a Summer Cotswolds Photoshoot?

The most timeless photographs usually come from clothing that feels soft, comfortable and natural.

When styling your photoshoot good options include:

  • linen dresses, dresses that have movement

  • neutral & pastel tones

  • soft earthy colours

  • textured fabrics and layering

  • bare feet or sandals for countryside sessions

  • relaxed outfits that allow movement

Creams, soft & olive greens, warm browns, dusty blues and muted florals all photograph beautifully against the Cotswolds landscape.

The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and like yourselves.

A Relaxed Experience for Travelling Families

Many visiting families worry that organising a photoshoot during a holiday might feel stressful.

In reality, sessions are intentionally calm and flexible.

There’s no pressure for children to sit perfectly or smile constantly. Some of the most beautiful moments happen naturally:

  • a toddler collecting flowers

  • siblings laughing together

  • parents holding hands as they walk

  • cuddles at sunset

The goal is to document your family honestly and authentically while allowing you to fully enjoy your holiday.

Why Holiday Photos Matter More Than We Think

When we travel, we often remember how a place made us feel.

The slowness of summer evenings. The excitement of exploring somewhere new together. Tiny details we don’t realise are important until years later.

Photographs preserve those feelings and memories.

For children especially, these images become part of their story:

  • the summer they fed ducks and splashed about in a Cotswold village

  • the holiday cottage they still talk about years later

  • the season when everyone was together

And for parents, they become treasured reminders that they were there too - not just behind the camera.

Planning Your Cotswolds Summer Photoshoot

Summer availability across the Cotswolds can book quickly, especially during school holidays, so it’s always worth enquiring early if you’re visiting the area.

Whether you’re staying near Cheltenham, exploring the villages of the Cotswolds, or enjoying a countryside retreat with family, a relaxed photoshoot is a beautiful way to preserve your time here together.

Because long after the holiday ends, these are the memories that remain.
